The Cartwright Banjo Ukulele

Phil Cartwright started making Banjo Ukuleles in the early Nineties.
Following Ron Spiers, he became the number one instrument maker and the Society members bought personalised models as well as the generally accepted Abbott copies.
His instruments were well made and well finished. Tone varied but in general was very acceptable.

I visited his workshop in Cinderford on the edge of the Forest of Dean in 1993 where he showed me several instruments in the process of construction. It was interesting to see how all the parts eventually came together and then the final finished product.

Like Jack Abbott Jr some of Cartwright's instruments had concave resonators. See next page.
