Early
shooting titles: "Never Touched Me" & "Marriage
By Instalments"
A gramophone record technician breaks the master disc of "Leaning
On A Lampost".
He secretly substitutes his own voice by cutting a new disc and wins
fame and fortune.
Playing a character called Willie, this is the only Formby film, with
the exception of "Boots, Boots" and "Off
The Dole", in which he is not called George.
Brendan Ryan
This is the first of two films featuring leading lady
Polly Ward, it has a theme which will be instantly recognisable
to younger people today, mortgage difficulties!
It does of course also feature one of George's best known songs,
"Leaning On A Lampost" and the sequences
in the recording studios are always interesting.

Leslie Halliwell's Film Guide
A gramophone record technician substitutes his own voice for a
star and becomes world famous. The star in less farcical vein than
usual;
this is the one in which he sings, "Leaning on a Lamp-post."
