What do you get?
The Vellum magazine. This is issued just before each convention and even if you join the GFS part-way through the year, you will not lose out as we will supply you with the back numbers previously issued in that year. Free entry to the quarterly Blackpool conventions. Admission to non-members is £6 per day. Conventions are held in the Imperial Hotel, North Promenade, North Shore, Blackpool, Lancashire FY1 2HB Tel: 01253 623971 from midday on the Saturday until almost midnight on the Sunday. Two George Formby films are shown at every convention. Occasionally we show rare newsreels or documentaries featuring the life of George Formby Free tuition by top-class exponents of the Formby style of banjo/ukulele playing. At every convention there is Society Shop selling CDs, DVDs, videos, chord books, backing tracks and many other items of interest to the George Formby enthusiast. For those who are a little shy of taking to the stage in the main concert hall there are beginners concerts which are great confidence builders to the inexperienced player. In September each year, an Annual General meeting is held to elect an Executive Committee and Officers to serve for one year. Every subscribing Member and Nominated Family Member are entitled to vote. The ability to play the ukulele is of no importance to prospective members, although if you feel that you would like to play, you will be encouraged to do so, but there will be no pressure whatsoever. If you have any problems or require more information please email Andrew Gatherer
