November 2009 It was in November 2009 that we returned to the Imperial Hotel after a very long stay at the Winter Gardens and now, six years later we are still enjoying the hospitality of the Imperial and the conventions are just the same as they were on our return six years ago, friendly, highly entertaining, interesting, colourful and busy with plenty of members supporting the GFS Shop - for which we are eternally grateful as it is the shop proceeds that ensure that we can stay at the most prestigious hotel on the Fylde coast. Weather Atrocious weather conditions, both in Blackpool and on both legs of the journey couldn't keep us away or stop our enjoyment of all that is best within our Society. Many members made the effort to look 'seasonal' and there was a really nice Christmas spirit within our midst we even had Santa Clause within our company so it doesn't get much better than that! It is a shame that many members of the GFS probably never travel to Blackpool and are happy just to receive the quarterly magazine - but you really do need to make the effort, it is a wonderful atmosphere no matter what time of year it is and is a really very special occasion. The Band There is always good entertainment from the members and it was great to welcome back Dean Spencer who can only be with us when his business permits, but Dean's presence ensured that we could have a band on stage on Sunday night when usually we have to resort to backing tracks. Films Two good Formby films in "Keep Your Seats Please" and "Keep Fit" added to the enjoyment and the cinema was well supported on both Saturday and Sunday. 2016 So now we can look forward to 2016 and the 55th anniversary of The George Formby Society. All the conventions are special but next September will be very special, my hotel is already booked!
