billy uke scott in the vellum
The Vellum will feature some of the songs of Billy ‘Uke’ Scott from the Winter 2019 issue and cover all future issues whilst we have songs to
use.
To acquaint those members who may not be aware of Billy, he was a brilliant ukulele player and a wonderful songwriter and he worked
theatres throughout the United Kingdom between the 1930s right up to the 1970s. He was an honorary member of the Society and a regular
visitor to the GFS conventions and entertained right in to the early millennium years.
To demonstrate the songs for tuition purposes, I have used the recordings of Billy’s great friend, Alan Southworth or if a song by Alan is
unavailable, I am delighted to make use of a sample from Lewis Clifton’s lovely “Lewis Clifton Sings Billy ‘Uke’ Scott” compact disc which on
sale in the GFS Shop.
Billy was always very welcome at the Blackpool conventions and his songs were so much appreciated. I look forward to hearing member
performing the songs at future meetings!
