For many members of the GFS, the story of the rise to fame of George Formby will be well known. You can read so much about George’s
achievements not only on this website, but also throughout the internet there are many film clips and writings of what George and Beryl
aspired to throughout their forty-year theatrical life.
I can think of certain people who can tell the tale of George’s rise to fame and fortune and the man who tells it on this recording is definitely
up there with the best of them.
I speak of none other than Dennis Taylor, the President of The George Formby Society for fourteen years between 1992 and 2006.
Dennis along with a dedicated team, did so much for the Society and made sure that by the time he retired as President, the Society was
enjoying the greatest of success in its chequered history.
Here Dennis is chatting with legendary Merseyside radio personality Billy Butler and between them, they tell in just over 50 minutes, the
story of George, Beryl and look at many events that made George Formby such a star.
