What can I say about our wonderful Musical Director that has not already been said by so many people's comments on Matthews's Facebook page? His recent appearance on Channel 4's The Piano was such a treat for all the viewers and for those of us who have had the pleasure of knowing Matthew since he joined The George Formby Society twenty years ago in 2003. His playing was stunningly good and the fact that he played his own composition which was beautiful, made this compulsive viewing for music lovers everywhere and especially for all Matthew's friends within The George Formby Society. The members who go to the Blackpool conventions are privileged to hear his marvellous playing throughout each of the four quarterly meetings in The Imperial Hotel. It must have been such a thrill to be amongst the many people watching the event being recorded in Birmingham's New Street Station Railway. Matthew's mum and dad and brother Jonathan must be so proud, Matt's musical ability is such a rare gift and his modesty is also such a rarity in one so talented. Matt was made an Honorary member of the GFS just last year and no one deserved that honour more than he. In his day job as a piano tuner, he must be so popular.
