net magazine award
The best-selling Internet magazine in the United Kingdom - "The Net", has seen fit to award The George Formby Society site a 5-star award in their March 2000 issue. This means that the magazine has voted the site the best in the Comedy section of sites from the March issue. The review stated, "The exemplary Web site of the George Formby Society is an exhaustive trawl through the northern comedian's 40-year career plus all the latest news from the Society's fun-packed meetings. There's also the opportunity to buy CDs and a whole load of other Formby- related shenanigans. Highlights include the catalogue of an auction of all George's possessions after his death - which included soiled underwear - plus a 300-song discography. The only complaint is the lack of audio clips: how much would you give to hear a snippet of the classic 1933 tune With My Little Ukulele In My Hand (withdrawn)? "I am delighted that my efforts have been recognized by this prestigious magazine and the fact that it gives the Society some marvellous exposure just doubles the pleasure. Please keep visiting the site to learn about the Society, and the world of George Formby" Peter Pollard - 03/2000

Sadly, the net magazine no longer exists.

I believe that it was a victim of the covid

pandemic and the company producing it

failed around April 2020.

We went to Keswick in The Lake District for a weekend at the time this issue was produced. I went into W H Smiths to buy a computer magazine and one of those that I browsed through was the issue at right. I was amazed to find the entry for the website. Obviously this was the magazine that I bought - I still have it!
