BRANCH RE-OPENS

Thursday 22 July 2021 is a very special day for members of the GFS South Yorkshire branch. This is the day when the group will get back to holding live meetings once again, after a period of inactivity that goes back to the last meeting they held in February 2020. Nothing since then because of Covid.

CHANGE OF LEADER

Within that period, the group has changed hands, ever-popular GFS member Cathy Staniland is now the leader. In the enforced downtime, she has re-organised the group's Facebook social media page, increasing the membership by encouraging people to join not just from the local area, but from anywhere that Formby enthusiasts might be based. Consequently, the group now can boast of members from all over the UK and even members in foreign locations!

NEW NIGHT & NEW VENUE

Other very important news is that the regular night will now be the third Thurday each month. Cathy has also announced that the location of the meetings is also changed and now the group will meet at The Boatman's Rest public house. Meetings will commence at 7:40 pm. The first meeting is a one-off as that it takes place on 22 July, the fourth Thursday. After this meeting, it will always be the third Thursday. On the sound desk will be Cathy's husband Kevin, assisted by Tom Fletcher.

Press call - Wednesday 14 July

Members were asked to attend at the new venue today to have a photograph taken for the Barnsley Chronicle to help publicise the forthcoming opening on 22 July. Lovely summer weather greeted us and our old friend Fred Austin popped along with his famous Shuttleworth Snap motorbike. Members enjoyed the warm afternoon sun as they renewed acquaintances for the first time in over 18 months and all are looking forward to 22 July and all future events at the new venue.
