September 2026
This September 12-13th in Blackpool, The George Formby Society
will celebrate its Sapphire Jubilee - 65 years since the inception of
the Society in 1961.
To this, the Society has organised a Songs From the Films concert to
take place on the Saturday Evening of the weekend.
This echoes events that celebrated previous anniversaries in 2011
and 2016 - treasured occasions that have gone down in the history
books of the GFS.
To allow all members to have equal opportunity in performing in the
concert, concert organiser Charlie Evered and President Andrew
Poppleton are opening entries for a selection of songs published in
the Summer 2026 edition of The Vellum. Of these songs, the
following remain open for entries:
Baby
Chinese Laundry Blues
In A Little Wigan Garden
The Window Cleaner
Keep Your Seats Please
When We Feather Our Nest
Leaning on a Lamp Post
I Don't Like
Fanlight Fanny
Count Your Blessings And Smile
Mr Wu's a Window Cleaner Now
The Ukulele Man
On The Beat
Auntie Maggie's Remedy
Home Guard Blues
Get Cracking
Bell Bottom George
Swim Little Fish
Hill Billy Willie
She's Got Two Of Everything
You Don't Need A License For That
To secure your place as a performer of one of these, please email
Charlie Evered with your preferred song. The list is filling up fast!
Make sure to attend the convention at the Imperial Hotel, Blackpool
to experience this historic event for the George Formby Society!"
