Alan Kershaw
It is with great sadness that I have to report the passing of my dearest friend and one of the most popular members of the GFS, Alan Kershaw. Alan passed away late on Tuesday 17 November after a valiant battle with serious illness. Alan only joined the GFS in June 2011 but in that short time he has become so well known and loved by all who met him both at the Blackpool conventions and at various branches of the GFS and the Yorkshire Ukulele Circle. As a member of our Society, Alan was a shining example of all that is best about what we do. He would work quietly and without fuss at any job that needed doing both in Blackpool and within the committee room and was always approachable to members young and old. On behalf of the committee and members of The George Formby Society I offer my deepest felt sympathies to Christine, Lee and Ellen and their families. A more complete obituary with more images will follow shortly. Please read the following message from Lee and Ellen. Celebrating The Life Of Alan Kershaw The Memorial Service for Alan Kershaw will take place on Tuesday 1st December at 1pm at Central Methodist Church, Batley. As it's not a funeral, the service will be short & sweet, consisting of testimonials & memories. Alan requested that people wear bright/colourful clothing (not the usual black!) After the service, everyone is invited to Hanging Heaton Golf Club for a Buffet & Drinks. All donations received, will be donated to Kirkwood Hospice. Peter Pollard November 2015
