I learned recently of the sad passing of my old friend Ted Bradley. Ted had been a member of the Society for around 30 years as he joined around the same time as I did. In the early days of me shooting videos at the conventions, I used to just sit in an aisle seat about three rows from the front to shoot my videos. One afternoon Ted just came and sat next to me. I did not know him but at the interval of the concert, we ended up in the bar for a chat and a drink and that was the start of a friendship that has lasted until now. Ted and his wife Christine enjoyed coming to the Blackpool conventions and soon got involved in the playing side. He was already a musician and had a great interest in cinema organs. As a young man in his native Walsall, Ted played the organ in his local cinema. Ted and Chris led something of a double-life as they had a home and family near Oxford but also had a home and more family in Australia. They travelled between the two destinations on numerous occasions and spent lengthy periods, keeping in touch with all their family. He had a lovely sense of humour, was never boastful and always displayed hidden depths. Even though his home was some 180 miles from mine, Ted in the 1990s would travel with Chris to the special party night's that we used to put on at the Yorkshire Ukulele Circle and therefore Ted and Chris made many friends and were well known in the Uke Circle and the GFS. Ted’s business also brought him to Yorkshire most weekends which made it possible for us to see each other on a reguar basis. He was just an ordinary chap but he loved George Formby and the Society and was a devoted husband to Chris and his family and they were both good friends to Kathryn and myself over all these years. On behalf of all who knew Ted in the Society, I extend sincere condolences to Chris, Vanessa, Richard, Gill and Robert.
